Alora: What energizes you?
Katherine: Wingmanning! Kidding. Kind of. I can’t claim to be a full-on extrovert (I do love my alone time), but I get so much joy out of meeting new people and thinking about the other people or opportunities I might be able to connect them to. It’s like a mental puzzle that I’m always playing in the background, and it’s a reflection of the belief that things go better when people work together.
What is your superpower?
I’d like to think it’s asking unusual questions but don’t ask me to prove it until I’ve had coffee.
What book are you currently reading?
They Were San Franciscans by Miriam Allen de Ford, which is a profile of the prominent people in the San Francisco social scene between the late 1800s and 1941 (when the book was published). I would have never even heard of it if I hadn’t stopped in at The Rose Books & Obscurities on Bonifacio Place– a 4-minute walk from the Pearl Works, in case you’re looking to play hookey…
How has being a part of The Pearl Works impacted your life?
I’m pretty sure I’ve had the ideal Pearl Works experience. As both a remote worker and someone new to the peninsula, The Pearl Works was basically my gateway into a community of engaged and intellectually diverse folks. Since then, it feels like almost every person I’ve met has been one or two connections away from a Pearl Peep.
What is a valuable lesson you have learned recently?
Recently I’ve been getting back into the habit of reflecting on the day before– what I did, who I met, lingering forget-me-nots– and it’s been amazing to see how much it’s affected my ability to remember things long-term. Even just a few simple bullet points help me recall names more effectively and make a little extra space to appreciate things.
Katherine is a Dedicated Desk Member working from our Pod Desks on the second floor of TPW. With her avid curiosity and playful presence, she adds good vibes to our community while both in and out of focus mode. We are truly grateful to have her as part of our coworking family.
